In January, CIFF will use Special Projects to take a deeper look into sustainability within the fashion industry by collaborating with Lee. The idea behind it is to highlight how brands and consumers can alter the way they relate to old garments by creating the ability to repurpose old clothes and deadstock, which helps to address the issues of waste and obsolescence that trouble the industry. The collaboration includes ART – Alter Repair Transform – installations and repair stations for worn garments.

Duran Lantink

Collaborating with Lee on this project are Orsola De Castro, founder and creative director of Fashion Revolution; Dio Kurazawa, founder of sustainable fashion agency The Bear Scouts; award-winning designer Bethany Williams; and Dutch-based designer, Duran Lantink, who will develop a set of practical techniques and mindful principles with Lee to look at clothing longevity.

Bethany Williams

These experts will host panel talks and showcase their collections using deadstock denim and innovative fabrics from Lee’s archive.

Six Designers to Watch From CIFF January 2020 Edition

CIFF continued to highlight creative talent in menswear and the industry show’s message of sustainability which has been in their DNA since the beginning. The message is getting louder and louder and this season highlighted solutions and steps. Industry leaders discussed sustainable practices and debated hot topics as such as water-usage, waste and the social and environmental cost of cheap fashion.

Additionally, it is in CIFF’s DNA to give a voice to people who want to explore and push their creative limits and it was exciting to see them team up with A$AP NAST best known as a member of the hip hop collective A$AP Mob, along with fellow Harlem-based rappers A$AP Rocky and A$AP Ferg. ASAP Nast was supported with the launch of his LA-based brand Pangea. Their debut collaborative capsule collection called “Please Don’t Pet” included a pop-up shop and immersive experience at CIFF for January 2020.

In addition to Pangea, here are six other designers to watch!:

Monad

While fast fashion is under the much need scrutiny, Monad has quietly been making beautifully imperfect pieces as part of the growing “slow fashion” movement. The London based Central Saint Martins graduate Daniel Olatunji’s label is flying high on our radar as many of the tailored pieces are also collaborated on with artists and artisans, bringing an almost community feel to the growing label.

Séfr

Quiet and poetic could be two words to describe Séfr by longtime friends Sinan Abi Morshed and Messrs Per Fredrikson. What started out as a vintage shop selling designer find from around the world, expanded to them designing their own range of minimalist clothing or can we say accompanying clothing. Quality basics that melt into your own much loved favorite pieces in your wardrobe. They carry the right balance of understated colors and patterns that are quick to become wardrobe building pieces. If you need any validation, Mr. Porter is already a fan!

Labrum

London based Labrum a latin term for ‘having an edge’ creates sidestepping trends to tell West African narratives helping bridge the gap between western and West African culture. Founded back in 2014, they fuse utilitarian of needs and aesthetics of today with traditional British tailoring.

Buster’s World

We first discovered Danish designer Niels Gundtoft with his colorful youthful brand with grunge streak Hærværk (Danish for ‘vandalism’). What started out as the brand’s sister company Buster’s World with a similar aesthetic would release one piece every 30 days. This fashion week saw Niels debut the new brand on the runway, taking over its own new narrative.

Olubiyi Thomas

Organic fabrics and multiculturalism are part of Olubiyi Thomas‘ universe. Lagos born, Glasgow raised, London based Central Saint Martins graduate Thomas first cut his teeth at Alexander McQueen before moving to cult underground label Siki Im in New York, until a creative director position at now-defunct artisanal London label De Rien, brought him back to London before going solo in 2016.

Twelvepieces

Danish-Egyptian storytelling streetwear brand Twelvepieces are seasonal capsule collections. Everything is limited with 12 styles of 12 pieces in every collection with each piece numbered from 1/12 to 12/12. It stands out as streetwear with a minimalist approach.

See you all on the upcoming edition of CIFF (5-7 August 2020). For more info check www.ciff.dk

Martin Asbjørn Fall/Winter 2021

My collections always have a sense of escapism running through them but this time I really wanted to design for better days.

Escapism has always been part of Martin Asbjørn’s DNA-and this remains true for his Fall/Winter 2021 collection. Building on the developments of the past seasons, it plays to the designer’s strengths and remains true to his vision, featuring signature 70s vibes but this time infused with the positive energy of 90s house music and Europop. The result is upbeat, positive, and eternally optimistic.

A sexual energy always exists in the house style, but this time erotica is given an unexpectedly innocent twist with anime-inspired prints created in an exclusive collaboration with Chilean tattoo artist Cristian Garcia. Fresh-faced yet seductive and knowing, the boys in the designs know that better days are indeed on the way.

Danish-designer Martin Asbjørn unveiled his Spring/Summer 2022 collection as part of Copenhagen Fashion Week. A love letter to London’s Green Lanes area, the collection is inspired by the capital’s much loved Little Istanbul and celebrates the coming together of different cultures. Specializing in clothing that allows the wearer to feel confident, happy, and sexy, Martin Asbjørn’s Spring/Summer 2022 collection is no different, and highlights androgyny and self-expression but never at the expense of wearability.

(di)vision Spring/Summer 2022

The (di)vision Spring/Summer 2022 collection was inspired by the past year. The everyday uniform has been replaced by jogging and loungewear and comfort has been the first priority.

The collection mirrors both the past year, but it also embraces the time to come, where there’s – hopefully – room for more kisses, hugs, colors and patterns. It has been a strange year, where we have experienced a worldwide epidemic. Some days it has felt like you’ve gone 12 rounds in the boxing ring and other days like you’ve won Olympic gold, because you’ve finally been able to see your loved ones.

The collection is contrastfull and consists of many clean styles alongside disrupted pieces. The designer worked with both traditional and nontraditional takes on loungewear, which especially can be seen in the upcycled styles.

We have exclusively worked with deadstock fabric and cycling of vintage clothing, including the classic workwear jacket. The collection contains everything from large jackets, everyday wear to accessories.
